Travertine

Travertine is an extremely hardwearing and versatile stone that has been used for floors and walls since Roman times. It is formed from hot springs bubbling up through underground limestone which results in the characteristic small holes in the stone.  The ancient name for the stone was Lapis Tiburtinus, meaning Tibur stone, which has then become known as Travertine.

Travertine is often used as a building material, the largest building of its time was the Colosseum in Rome, constructed mostly of Travertine.

Travertine is an excellent product that not only has the elegant look of marble, but once sealed requires very little maintenance.  This makes it a very popular product with a timeless and beautiful appearance for the home and commercial use.  Travertine is an ideal product for most rooms including kitchens, dining areas, bathrooms, shower rooms and wet rooms.

Tumbled tiles are essentially moved around in a machine to round off the edges to give an aged and worn appearance and are usually unfilled giving a more rustic appearance.

Brushed tiles have a textured feel to them and are usually left unfilled, also giving a more rustic appearance.

Honed & filled tiles have the small holes filled with a resin and then honed to achieve a flat matt finish. Honed and filled tiles can be polished in order to give a high gloss effect.

Distressed edge also known as chiselled edge is available in two finishes being hand finished with a more rugged aged look and machine finished which has a more uniform edge.

Travertine is available in a wide range of colours including Ivory Cream, Light Cream, Warm Walnuts, Browns, Greys, Silver Pewter, Pinks, Reds and Yellows.
